Say hello to the mint tiled dreamland, The Tavern. The original sweetgreen in DC’s Georgetown neighborhood is now home to this locals only shop all in good company with sweetgreen’s sweetflow frozen yogurt. We are so happy to call this adorable shop one of our stockists. Get to know them more below and stop by their shop for their 1 year anniversary celebrations this weekend!

Tell us about the mission of The Tavern and how it relates to sweetgreen.

The Tavern’s mission is to highlight local makers that share the same commitment to sustainability as sweetgreen! Based in the original sweetgreen location, The Tavern is sweetgreen’s homage to the city where it all began! We aim to highlight and celebrate the local food and maker community in our region.

How many of the products you stock are local? How do you guys define local?

Everything in our shop is what we consider Local! Our definition of local is the mid-atlantic region. We have produce partners from PA, MD, VA, NY, DE. Many of our snacks and treats are made right here in DC!

There’s so much talk about shopping local, eating local, but how do you guys see it? What are the top reasons you give to skeptics about why it’s valuable?

At the Tavern, we love the community around food that is fostered when you focus on shopping local. Supporting local businesses and knowing where your food comes from ensures a transparency and quality that is unmatched. Eating local is one way to support the kind of world you want to see thrive PLUS it’s just too delicious to pass up!

In the picnic of your dreams, where are you going and what are you snacking on?

Picnics are truly my favorite summer activity!! My ideal location is comfy grass + waterside view + half shade / half sun! Friends and a thick blanket also a must. Our basket would be filled with local veggies + crackers for dipping, a strong cheese, seasonal fruit, a sweet treat, and some bubbly beverages to wash it all down. Join me?!

What’s your favorite summer scent?

My favorite Handmade Habitat Scent for summer is Lotus Blossom - so crisp, clean and happy!
