Our First Community Day

Our First Community Day

Shop Small this holiday season. It makes a big difference.

This year, we're celebrating Small Business Saturday, not with a discount-as-usual, but by giving back. This year our community has truly come out to support us, and for that we thank you so so much. But in this climate, offering a discount or doing a big sale feels too business-as-usual, and this year is anything but.

I’m absolutely not saying this to cast judgement on people and businesses who are still doing this - discounts and sales have their place. However, as we venture further into this pandemic world, questioning what the future of retail and life will look like, it feels like for us that this is not the time.

We’ve chugged along this year, but it’s been hard. Supplies have been extremely limited because of shipping and production delays due to the pandemic, and even when we are able to get our hands on our typical supplies, the prices have gone up significantly. We have raised prices a bit to help with this, but we are nowhere near our typical margins and are not sure if we’ll ever get back there.

And while we know we are some of the lucky ones, not everyone has been so lucky this year. So instead of doing a discount, this year we’ve decided to give back on one of the few days a year that small businesses get to shine. This year we’re dubbing our Small Business Saturday as our first Community Day!

Shop with us online and at our studio market stand on Small Business Saturday and know that your dollars are truly making a difference. We will be donating 10% of our sales that day to the Capital Area Food Bank to support our neighbors in their time of need. Plus, when you stop by the studio, you’ll get flowers with your purchase as our way of saying thanks. <3

We know that you have options this time of year, and we are so thankful that you have chosen to support us. It’s been a crazy year and we’ve pivoted a lot, so knowing that you guys are still with us keeps us going and keeps us growing even in such an unstable world.

Thank you, thank you so much. I literally cannot say it enough. Our community is everything, and we’re so happy you’re here.

On Small Business Saturday, you can also shop small online with 300+ brands, artists, makers, and stores across the DMV all indexed here at DC Shop Small, and if you stop by our studio on the Arts Walk, over a dozen artists, makers, and small businesses will also be open with perfect unique gifts for Open Studios 10am-4pm.
