Mindful Moments: October

Mindful Moments: October

October might be the best month of all, for me, at least. Pumpkin paraphernalia. An apple crispness in the air. Goldeny mustardy yellow everything. Cozy rainy days. I love this time of year, when we start to get cozy for the winter but without the chaos of the holiday season or the monotony of winter. There's excitement, there's anticipation, there's change. There's apples and pumpkins, and playing dress up, and don't forget the dahlias!

This month's Candle Club members are getting one of my personal favs: a cinnamon spice candle. For perfect cinnamon spice season. It goes with everything this time of year, don't you think? And cinnamon is an immune booster, fyi!

This month, here's what I've been…

Seeing: Dahlias transitioning from fresh to dried. Dahlias are my absolute favorite flower, and I feel so blessed that my daughter was born during dahlia season. I was born during peony season, which imho can only be beat by dahlia season. I bought a bundle of dahlias from the farmer's market a few weeks ago and had to inform my darling husband the other day that though they were no longer “alive,” he would probably still be looking at this little bundle for the rest of his life. :) I truly hoard dried flowers.

Smelling: Cinnamon Spice. Warm and cinnamony, like those scented pine cones that you can buy at the craft store. Perfect for chilly October days.

Tasting: Apples on apples. I'm a big fan of frozen apple turnovers and we have officially entered apple turnover season. It's our after bb bedtime treat. I've also recently realized that farmer's market apples are so much better than store bought ones. They're a little smaller, crisper, and wayy more fun to purchase out of those giant crates at a market than at the grocery store. I like to add apples to oatmeal in the mornings, but also to snack on full sized apples during the day. The farmer's market apples are perfect handheld size for me, and for my baby who has also discovered the joys of prancing around with an apple in hand.

Feeling: Coziness in the form of a yoga bolster. I've had an on/off relationship with yoga over the past few pandemic years, fueled by lack of access to studios, a move where I didn't know the good ones, pregnancy, etc. But I'm back in it right now and loving the restorative support of a firm bolster.
