Morning Treats: Turmeric Chai
One of my favorite ways to spend some me time is to relax at home with a big cup of tea. It's generally the way I start my days - a cup of tea in bed while I scroll through Instagram; then some time outside with my pup; and finishing up the morning with a toasted croissant with jam and a second cup of tea which is normally my turmeric chai, as I like to call it, at my kitchen table lit up in my favorite morning candle, the Lotus.
I wanted to share the recipe with you today because this turmeric chai is delicious, good for you and best enjoyed in a clear glass mug so you can take in all that brightness. So, here ya go:
Ingredients:
- 1 Tetley black tea bag
- 1 slice of fresh ginger cut into fourths
- 1 tbsp raw honey
- seeds of 1 cardamon pod
- 1 tsp turmeric
- half + half or creamer of choice
This is the easiest recipe in the world. All it takes is a little time, and in the time that it takes to heat up hot water, you can slice up your ginger, crack open a cardamon pod and spoon honey into your cup. Once it's all added, pour in hot water over your tea bag, and top the whole thing off with some half + half or other creamer of choice.
Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory spice, prevents aging, improves brain function, reduces your risk of heart disease as well as cancer and Alzheimer's disease. My grandfather is 89 and super healthy, probably due to the high amounts of turmeric that has always been a part of his diet. Turmeric is magical, and you can grab some at a grocery store, or awesome specialty spice shop like our pals, Bazaar Spices, in DC.
