In Community: Juneteenth

Juneteenth is this Sunday, and a day of celebration of Black freedom, joy, and also all the work to do. I wanted to take the opportunity to share some of my favorite Black owned small businesses that you can also support, not just this weekend, but always.

Romy Studio

We have loved Romy Studio since we first found Camille Hay’s beautiful polymer clay jewelry on Instagram years ago. When we opened our studio I was so excited to bring in a selection of her work, and have stayed excited to keep restocking it season after season with a fresh assortment of bright colors and shapes.

Sio Ceramics

We love our neighbor Makeda of Sio Ceramics at the Arts Walk! She makes beautiful ceramic jewelry, housewares, and large scale sculptures. She even made us custom marbled soap dishes for our shop! This Sunday, Juneteenth, she’s also part of the organizing team for Celebrate Juneteenth, bringing Black artists and makers to the Arts Walk for the day to celebrate all things Blackness.

District of Clothing

These are some of DC’s most iconic shirts and sayings and I definitely own a fair few of them.

Black Pepper Paperie

Hadiya handmakes bold and bright ceramics which also show in her design work. I’ve loved watching the evolution of her work over the years since we were studio neighbors years ago!
