February Self Care Chat: Self Love

February Self Care Chat: Self Love

Edition 02 of our self care chat was all about self love in this season that is overrun by the notions of romantic love, which is boring and overrated to me. As our goddess Lizzo says, “true love only happens when you’re by yourself,” and it’s a mantra that I’ve been taking to heart this year.

I think that Valentine’s Day can be fun + sweet + cute, but also lead to a lot of negative emotions. This season, instead of searching for love that is fundamentally external, I’m really enjoying the search for love that comes from within.

The idea behind these self care chats is to share thoughts, goals, and tips on how we engage in self care in different ways, and to create community far and wide in our little corner of the internet.

February’s self care chat lives here in our instagram story highlights, but as we did last month, I wanted to also wrap them up below for all of you to enjoy and maybe to also inspire some of your own self love rituals this season. The first response is mine and the ones that follow are yours. Enjoy.

How do you tell yourself you love yourself?

Sometimes I just say it in the mirror or journal all the things I love about myself. It’s an instant confidence boost and happiness that comes entirely from within.

Fuck yes, bitch.

It’s all in the skincare routine! Ethan [writer’s son] also reminds me that you have to love yourself too.

How do you show yourself you love yourself?

I definitely have a gift and time-oriented love language so I like to buy myself presents whether it’s a new plant or cute sweater to celebrate milestones. I also like to put in the time to do things I love like lingering in a coffee shop with no screen, only art supplies or taking a museum day - things I am trying to incorporate more into my life right now.

Enjoying the things that make ME happy. And not caring if others find them “uncool.”

Unplugging! Trusting that I’m enough and I don’t need to get online to verify that.

Get my nails done

Resting when I need rest

What are your favorite affirmations?

My go to is: I am whole, I am safe, I am loved. It always makes me feel whole / safe / happy.

I am safe is a really good one. Also you are brave and resilient.

I am getting stronger every day.

You Got This. It reminds me that I can handle anything.

Thanks to everyone who responded! Save the date for edition 03: on creativity on Sunday, March 1st.
